Robert Gallagher, president of International Marine Underwriters, a member of the OneBeacon Insurance Group, was elected chairman of the American Institute of Marine Underwriters (AIMU) during its annual meeting. He succeeds Dennis Marvin, vice president – ocean marine, Alterra Specialty Insurance, who completed his 2-year term as chairman.
AIMU provides educational programs to its members, serves as an advocate before international, federal and state governments and acts as an information center for the U.S. ocean marine insurance industry.
Gallagher has been in the insurance industry since 1981 when he joined Continental Insurance Co.as an underwriter. He also served as chief underwriter for Royal Insurance for 10 years before joining International Marine Underwriters in 1994. He was appointed to his current position of president in 2001.
